Great news today. SF Gateway will be publishing tons of great sci-fi classics as ebooks over the next few years. Whole back lists of authors whose work is currently out of print an unavailable.

They are being published by Orion Books, the same folks who are bringing us the online version of the Encyclopedia of Science Fiction. The two sites will be closely integrated.

I can’t wait for it to go live. One of my favorite things to do is look for old sci-fi and fantasy paperbacks in used books stores. But, as two of the four used books stores in our neck of the woods have closed (and the third doesn’t carry sci-fi), I’ve been hoping for a solution. The ebooks won’t be as much fun as seeing the old paperbacks on my shelves, but at least I’ll be able to read them. And at least the authors will have their work back in print.

The video above is from the SF Gateway site. It has several current British sci-fi authors commenting on how older sci-fi novels influenced them.
