A few years ago, I wanted to relearn the craft of screenwriting and tell a fun blockbuster-type story with high stakes and a smaller scope. An old idea about a city mysteriously appearing the desert sprung to mind and the result became the screenplay The Phantom City. This is the blurb:
When a bizarre city suddenly appears through a dimensional rift in the New Mexico desert, maverick physicist Hamlin Thorne leads a hastily assembled expedition into the heart of the mysterious metropolis to uncover its secrets before the disturbance between the realms destroys our world.
It was a fun project to write, and I think a fun script to read, although I do feel it might work better as a novel or a long form TV series. Let me know what you think.
