Alchemy of World and Soul
From 2001-2002, I took a year and a half sabbatical to write a non-fiction book exploring the relationship between spirituality and globalization. I called the book The Chrysalis Age: A Handbook for the New Millennium. I am currently in the process of revising it with the goal of independently publishing it as an ebook at the end of 2012. There are excerpts available at The Chrysalis Age website where you can find a few essays on issues of spirituality and globalization as well.
The revised version of the book will be called: The Alchemy of World and Soul – A Guide to the Chrysalis Age
The Alchemy of World and Soul is an attempt to integrate collective and individual growth; to bridge the gap between the many facets of social and cultural change embodied by the forces of globalization and the profoundly transformative energies of a spiritual practice rooted in the world’s wisdom traditions.
Firstly, it investigates the need for a more encompassing worldview that is capable of understanding the interconnectedness of the world. Given this new perspective, the book then calls for a more complete ethics – one rooted not in religious dogma or philosophical rationalizations, but in a direct apprehension of the integral and interconnected nature of the universe. Based upon these two things, a more complete worldview and deeper ethics, the book goes on to explore how we can create a holistic and spiritual vision of the future, both collectively and individually.
The final section of the book presents principles and tools for personal and collective transformation. Meditations and contemplations aimed at both psychological and spiritual development are combined with suggestions for how we can change the world socially, culturally, environmentally, politically, and economically to more fully reflect a deepening spiritual perspective.
I am currently revising the manuscript of The Alchemy of World and Soul, but a PDF of the original version is available to those who are interested.
